  • Advocate for seniors, veterans, small businesses, and homeowners

Our Message to Voters

Supported by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, California assessors, veterans, and firefighters/first responders, Dara Smith is the Best Choice for Assessor/Recorder.

I bring 25 years of fiscal and appraisal experience, managing $2 trillion in property valuations, leading 1,400 employees, and balanced $2 billion budgets. I hold an Accounting degree and advanced Auditor-Appraiser certificate from the State of California.

Currently serving as Deputy Assessor for the largest assessment agency in the nation, I’m uniquely qualified for this role.

My proven track record and priorities are clear:

  • Save on Property Taxes – In 2024, I delivered $836 million in tax relief: $9.3 million for disabled veterans; $65 million for homeowners; and $762 million for schools, churches, and non-profits.
  • Uphold Proposition 13 – Advocate for the protection of seniors, veterans, homeowners, small businesses, and renters’ interests.
  • Ensure funding for vital local services – Firefighters, schools, and parks.

I’ll ensure fair and equitable assessments, transparency and innovative solutions to make public education and outreach clear and accessible to all.

My spouse, a military veteran and dedicated public safety officer in San Bernardino County and I, raised our family here and are long-time residents of this community. I’ll advocate for working families and taxpayers.
